Invisalign clear aligners
Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable plastic aligners, each worn for one to two weeks, that move the teeth a little at a time. They are almost invisible, and you take them out to eat and to brush. They need to be worn for about 22 hours a day to work, so they suit people who are organised about wearing them.
Fixed braces
Fixed braces use small brackets bonded to the teeth and a wire that is adjusted every six to eight weeks. We offer metal braces and tooth-coloured ceramic braces. Fixed braces can handle more complex movements, and because they cannot be taken out, they work without relying on the patient to remember.
How long does treatment take?
Simple cases can finish in six to nine months. Most full treatments take twelve to twenty-four months. At your consultation we take photos and a 3D scan, and for Invisalign we can show you a simulation of how your teeth are planned to move before you decide.
After treatment: retainers
Teeth tend to drift back towards their old positions, so every patient finishes treatment with retainers: a thin wire bonded behind the front teeth, a clear removable retainer to wear at night, or both. Retainers are part of the treatment, not an extra.
